International women day is being celebrated on 8 March every year. It is a common saying that there is always a woman behind a successful man. The importance and role of women cannot be denied. Our society cannot work properly without the participation of women. Women’s life is more complicated than men’s life. She has to manage her own personal life. She takes care about her children life too and if she is professional than she has more stressful life. In Pakistan working women celebrate International Women’s day every year to memorize their ongoing struggle although they are facing many cultural and religious restrictions.
The most important person of anybody’s life is mostly a woman. A woman may be a daughter, sister, wife, mother etc. mother is given utmost importance in human’s life. There may be a wicked son but not a wicked mother. It is because of the noble feelings of mother that her child becomes virtuous, intelligent, attain exalted positions and earn name and fame.
In Pakistan’s society women is the name of sacrifice even women is considered the symbol of sacrifice. In other way you can say that woman is the name of love, generosity and patience. She is always expected to “give” and not to demand anything. If we talk about the women in Pakistan, we will find a huge difference in their status from area to area and class to class. No doubt the status of women has changed a lot within past decades. Now they are more liberal but still they are facing problems in their own circle. Working woman maintains her job and family life at the same time.
In our society we can divide the women in two groups. There are still some areas where woman is treated not more than a commodity. Women are not allowed to take decisions about their critical matters of their lives. If anyone dares to do so then they have to pay a big price for it. Women are even tortured by their in-laws, even sometimes by their maternal sides, in the name of honor.
On the other hand there are women that are enjoying good status. We can see women in every field of life as politician, TV anchor, lady doctor, teacher almost all the well known professions and considerable posts.
In Islamic history, women role is unforgettable. They set examples for all Muslims. Hazrat Ayesha (R.A), Hazrat Khadija (R.A), Hazrat Fatima (R.A), Hazrat Amana (R.A), Hazrat Zainab, Umm Salmah, Saffiya bint Huyayy, Juwariyyah bint al-harith etc are samples for us to spend a good life. They showed patience, Emaan and piety. We can find the solution of every problem of our life by following them.
Fatima Jinnah is the mother of nation. It was women that played an important role in Pakistan movement. Benazir Bhutto was first ever women Prime Minister of a Muslim society. Noor Japan was the famous singer. Bilquis Edhi is a social worker and successfully running the Eidhi trust with her husband. Dr Aafia Siddiqe, who needs no introduction. She is actually pride of Pakistan. Dr Farhat Hashmi established Al-Huda international in 1994. She had a PhD in Islamic studies from the University of Glasgow. She has spreading the light of Islam all over the world.
We cannot deny the importance of women in our society. They played significant role in all the fields of life. No doubt the condition and status of women is improving and have many more opportunities than the last three decades but there is still much to be done in order to improve the lives of women.
